Internship Opportunities:

Position: Communications Intern

Accountable to:  Communications Manager 

Description: The communications intern will work with the communications manager and development staff to create publications, maintain brand presence in the community and ensure proper communications among donors, volunteers and partner families.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester
  • Flexible schedule
  • A minimum of 15 hours in the office

 Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date website content, including photos, videos and copy
  • Generate content for all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube
  • Create short video stories showcasing partner families and Core Crew volunteers
  • Create short how-to videos for volunteers on the build site
  • Shoot and edit photos from the build site
  • Generate press releases and media alerts as needed
  • Create flyers and newsletters with build progress
  • Assist with the creation of newsletter articles for the annual report, semi-annual newsletter and monthly email newsletter
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree within communications: public relations, advertising, journalism, communication studies
  • Experience writing press releases, human interest stories, website content
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop
  • Experience in multi-media journalism/communications: video, photo and audio storytelling

Position:  Volunteer Data Manager Intern

 Accountable to:  Volunteer Workforce Manager

 Description: The Volunteer Data Manager Intern will maintain the volunteer database with up-to-date information on volunteers.

 Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester
  • Flexible schedule

 Responsibilities:

  • Keep the volunteer database updated with current information on individual and group volunteers.
  • Ensure volunteers have signed have completed all forms and liability waivers required before their volunteer event date.
  • Ensure that volunteer sites are stocked with the required data management forms.
  • Record volunteers attendance and hours in the volunteer database
  • Compile pertinent information into a weekly Volunteer Relations Report for the Volunteer Workforce Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and desire to promote it
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented

Position: Volunteer Retention Intern

 Accountable to:  Volunteer Workforce Manager

 Description: The Volunteer Retention Manager is responsible for developing and coordinating programs for volunteer retention and reward.

 Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester.
  • Flexible hours

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee evaluation process for volunteer program, including obtaining feedback from volunteers and supervisors.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all personnel who supervise volunteers.
  • Ensure that acknowledgements are sent to all volunteers in a timely manner.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of a formal program for volunteer retention and recognition.
  • Solicit donations in-kind for bottled water, lunch for volunteers on site, coffee supplies, safety equipment, personal protective equipment, etc.
  • Develop strategies and procedures for dealing with difficult volunteers. Communicate with personnel who supervise volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and desire to promote it.
  • Know the many different reasons people volunteer and the reasons HFH chooses to build houses with volunteers.
  • Understand the difference between “doing for" and "doing with."
  • Understand the difference between "enabling" and "empowering."
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be comfortable speaking to large groups of people about HFH mission and ministry.
  • Be organized and proactive.  Experience as a volunteer is helpful.

Position: Volunteer Relations Intern

 Accountable to:  Volunteer Workforce Manager

 Description: Volunteer Relations Intern serves as a liaison between the Site Leader and the volunteers.

 Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester.
  • Attendance at build days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays).

 Responsibilities:

  • Welcome volunteers on site, share information about the HFH ministry, coordinate devotion.
  • Be present on site to support volunteers, ensure that their personal needs are met and that the tasks at hand are explained clearly.
  • Provide explanation for the liability waiver and ensure that all volunteers sign one.
  • Assist Retention Manager Intern with sending acknowledgements to volunteers shortly after their service.
  • Assist Volunteer Data Manager Intern with processing Liability Waivers, Site Sign-in Sheets and volunteer information
  • Ensure that water, snacks and coffee are stocked on site.
  • Provide feedback and reports to the Volunteer Workforce Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Position:  Family Services Intern

 Accountable to:  Volunteer Workforce Manager

 Description: The Family Services Intern will work with Partner Families during their sweat equity process.

 Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester
  • Some evening and Saturdays for Homeowners Classes

 Responsibilities:

  • Keep the Partner Family database updated with current information on individual Partner Families and the number of sweat equity hours they have completed.
  • Attend meeting with Volunteer Workforce Manager and each Partner Family once a month to discuss sweat equity deadlines and goals.
  • Assist Volunteer Workforce Manager with scheduling Partner Family Homeowner’s Classes.
  • Compile pertinent information into a weekly Partner Family Report for the Volunteer Workforce Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
