“It’s a blessing knowing our hard work is paying off. We appreciate everything done for us, and we’re going to take care of our home because it’s such a big blessing to our family.”

Every Homeowner Has a Story

Future Habitat Homeowners
Angela M. and LaMarcus S.

Angela and LaMarcus have been together for 12 years, and they have three kids together, Amyah (13), JaMarkus (8), and Ja’Leyah (5). The family loves to spend time together watching movies and going on family outings. “We’re homebodies,” Angela says. “We’re with each other all day, every day.” Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, Angela worked as a home health aide. LaMarcus works at Fiber Tech in Elberfeld.

Angela, LaMarcus, and their three children currently live in a three-bedroom apartment. Since having children, Angela and LaMarcus have always had to share their bedroom with one of their kids, and they’re currently sharing with Ja’Leyah. A Habitat home will allow the parents to have their own space. Ja’Leyah is excited to get her own room. That’s all she keeps talking about,” LaMarcus laughs.

Ready for a change, Angela and LaMarcus started working on their finances. “Our finances were a mess for a while, but we started working on building our savings. For the first time in our lives, we haven’t touched our savings in over a year!” LaMarcus says. Next came the goal of owning their own home, and that’s when they decided to apply to Habitat. Angela first learned about Habitat through a former classmate and current Habitat homeowner, Dominique, and she encouraged the family to apply. After completing all of the paperwork, Angela and LaMarcus got approved for their own Habitat home.

Angela and LaMarcus quickly learned that being a part of Habitat is a fun experience. “It’s been fun on the build sites. You get to meet new people, new friends,” Angela explains. “We’ve been a lot more excited and more determined to get where we need to be and focus on saving money,” LaMarcus adds.

Having this Habitat home will help provide a foundation for the family and financial stability. After moving in, LaMarcus says he can start focusing on his retirement fund and getting money together to leave behind for the kids. Angela has been thinking about going back to school to pursue nursing. “It’s a blessing knowing our hard work is paying off. We appreciate everything done for us, and we’re going to take care of our home because it’s such a big blessing to our family.”
