“I never imagined I would qualify … but about 2 weeks after applying, I got a call.  I want to encourage others to do the same because you may not think you will qualify but you could”.

Every Homeowner Has a Story

Future Habitat Homeowner
Kaynah M.

As a single mother, Kaynah is looking to provide her daughter Emma (6) with a stable home. Together they enjoy the outdoors, going on bike rides and taking trips to the park. Kaynah has worked as a fabric welder at Anchor Industries for over two years, but her real dream is to be a social worker.  She is currently pursuing her degree at Ivy Tech.

Kaynah and Emma currently live in a townhouse, but Kaynah is looking for a yard and more privacy so they can spend more time outdoors together. She also wants to provide more stability for her daughter.  “The longest we have ever lived somewhere is two years.”

Before seeing a Facebook post about Habitat for Humanity, Kaynah was unfamiliar with the organization and program details. Excited for the opportunity, she immediately went to the website and applied to be a future homeowner. “I never imagined I would qualify but about 2 weeks after applying, I got a call.  I want to encourage others to do the same because you may not think you will qualify but you could.”

Since partnering with Habitat, Kaynah has met an abundance of friends on the job site, driving her motivation. While the physical work can be long and difficult, she claims “Habitat has had a really positive impact on my life.” Often, Kaynah and Emma drive by the property in excitement for their new future.

Once moved into the home, Kaynah plans to spend more time with her daughter. With the low mortgage payment, she will be able to save money.  “My daughter’s dream is to have a trampoline in our back yard.  I can now make that come true.”  She hopes that a Habitat home will provide her family with stability and allow her to pursue her goal of becoming a social worker. “I want to be able to help children beat the odds like I did,” Kaynah says.
