Home #557 | Deaconess

This home will be Habitat’s 557th house built in the Evansville and Mt. Vernon area and will be constructed in the Jacobsville neighborhood. The sponsor of this home is Deaconess and is the first home being built as part of the “Building Homes and Health” collaborative project, funded by Deaconess and built in partnership with healthcare students from University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana, and IU School of Medicine – Evansville.  Thanks to their commitment to community health, Stephenie and her family will have an affordable place to call home!

About the House Sponsor:

Deaconess was founded in 1892 by a group of Protestant ministers and laymen who felt called to care for the sick.  More than 125 years later, Deaconess Health System continues to provide high-quality healthcare with a compassionate spirit, just as the founders envisioned.  Deaconess Health System is the premier provider of healthcare services to 26 counties in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.

About the Building Homes and Health Partnership:

Building Homes and Health is a collaborative project with Habitat Evansville, Deaconess, IU School of Medicine – Evansville, University of Southern Indiana, and University of Evansville.  The project is being funded by Deaconess, which is giving $250,000 to Habitat Evansville over the next five years. The program is designed to help three local families participating in Habitat’s homeownership program build a secure, affordable home. Students from the three universities – all future healthcare professionals – will help with the construction of the homes, receiving a unique service-learning experience that allows them to connect with members of the community.  Stephenie’s home will be the first funded and built through the project.
