Habitat for Humanity of Evansville is currently seeking highly motivated and passionate individuals for our available internships. We offer internships in communications, data management, event management, family services, and construction.

Communications Intern

Accountable to: Communications Manager

Description: The communications intern will work with the Communications Manager and Development Staff to create publications, maintain brand presence in the community, and ensure proper communications among donors, volunteers, and future homeowners.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester: fall, spring, or summer
  • Flexible schedule
  • A minimum of 10-15 hours in the office per week
  • May require local travel

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date website content, including photos, videos, and copy
  • Generate content for all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Shoot and edit photos from build sites, home dedications, events, or more
  • Assist with planning special events such as home dedications
  • Create flyers, graphics, or other publications for builds and special events
  • Generate press releases and media alerts as needed
  • Assist in interviews with donors, volunteers, and future/current homeowners
  • Write one-page Habitat family biographies
  • Assist with the creation of articles for the annual report, bi-annual newsletter, and monthly email newsletter.
  • Data system maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the families we serve
  • Graduated with or pursuing a degree within communications, public relations, advertising, journalism, graphic design, event planning, or another relevant course of study
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience in writing press releases, human interest stories, and website content
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Publisher, Movie Maker, and WordPress
  • Experience in multi-media journalism/communications: video, photo, and audio storytelling

Event Management Intern

Accountable to: Director of Development

Description: The Event Management Intern will work with the Director of Development and Development Staff to execute Habitat fundraising events. This includes soliciting auction items, ticket and table sponsorship sales, mailings, phone calls, event promotion, set up, clean up, and other duties necessary.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester/event season
  • Flexible schedule
  • A minimum of 15 hours in the office per week
  • May require local travel

Major Events Include:

  • Fall Picnic – Annual outing with a lunch for volunteers, donors, future and current Habitat homeowners, and staff
  • Hard Hats and High Heels – Annual spring fundraiser benefiting the Habitat Millennial Build

Responsibilities:

  • Soliciting silent and live auction items
  • Picking up auction items and keeping them organized
  • Recruit event sponsors
  • Ticket and table sponsorship sales
  • Assist Development Team in event mailings
  • Help promote the event on different media outlets like social media, radio, and TV
  • Organize seating arrangements
  • Research and hire event entertainment/program
  • Assist in the creation of event collateral such as programs, signage, flyers, hand-outs, etc.
  • Participate in décor and food decisions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the families we serve
  • Graduated with or pursuing a degree within event planning, communications, hospitality, public relations, marketing, or another related field
  • Preferred experience with planning events like homecoming, Greek life fundraisers, Dance Marathon, student government, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking on the phone and in person

Family Services Intern

Accountable to: Family Services Director

Description: The Family Services Intern will assist the Family Services Department with various aspects of the homeownership program from application to completion.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester: fall, spring, or summer
  • A minimum of 10-15 hours in the office per week
  • May require local travel
  • Some evening and Saturday’s attendance of future homeowner classes

Responsibilities:

  • Keep the future Habitat homeowner database updated with current information on individual future homeowners
  • Assist with phone and walk-in inquiries regarding homeownership
  • Work with staff on family selection including screening applicants, setting up orientation for applicants, and supporting applicants as they go through the homeownership process
  • Assist Family Services Director with scheduling future Habitat homeowner’s classes
  • Assist with the needs of the Family Support Committee that meets once a month
  • Compile pertinent information into a weekly Family Services Report for the Family Services Director
  • Facilitate and seek out opportunities for additional homeowner education classes
  • Seek out opportunities to reach out to local families that may be eligible for a Habitat home
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Completed or working toward a degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., Education, Human Services, Social Work)
  • Ability to work sensitively with diverse populations
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint Excel, Salesforce)
  • Self-motivated, good organizational and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, able to multitask and prioritize
  • Must maintain confidentiality

Family Services Loan Officer Intern

Accountable to: Family Services Director

Description: The Family Services Loan Officer Intern will assist the Family Services Department with various aspects of the homeownership program from application to completion.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester: fall, spring, or summer
  • A minimum of 10-15 hours in the office per week
  • May require local travel
  • Some evening and Saturday’s attendance of future homeowner classes

Responsibilities:

  • Keep the future Habitat homeowner database updated with current information on individual future homeowners
  • Assist with phone and walk-in inquiries regarding homeownership
  • Work with staff on family selection including screening applicants, setting up orientation for applicants, and supporting applicants as they go through the homeownership process
  • Assist Mortgage Administration Specialist with credit reports, draft 30-day notice letters, etc.
  • Assist and analyze background checks
  • Opportunity to complete ABA online classes
  • Compile pertinent information into a weekly Family Services Report for the Family Services Director
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completed or working toward a degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., Pre-Law, Business, Economics, Finance)
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the families we serve.

Data Management Intern

Accountable to: Data Systems Administrator

Description: The Data Management Intern will assist the Data Systems Administrator in maintaining the volunteer database with up-to-date information on donors and other constituents.

Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester: fall, spring, or summer
  • Flexible schedule
  • A minimum of 10-15 hours in the office per week

Responsibilities:

  • Keep the volunteer database updated with current information on volunteers, donors, future and current homeowners, and other constituents
  • Import and export information for data analysis
  • Pull reports with specific data points
  • Assist in routine mailings
  • Input finance data carefully and correctly
  • Organize data within Salesforce
  • Assist in follow-up information
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the families we serve
  • Graduated with or pursuing a degree within data analytics, computer science, statistics, or another relevant course of study
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Applications such as Excel and Word
  • Preferred experience with Salesforce and/or Donorlynk or a willingness to learn
  • A desire for exposure to non-profit organizations
  • Must maintain confidentiality

Volunteer Relations Intern

Accountable to: Volunteer Workforce Manager

Description: Volunteer Relations Intern serves as a liaison between the Site Leader and the volunteers.

 Expected Commitment:

  • A minimum of one semester.
  • Attendance at build days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays).

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome volunteers on site, share information about the HFH ministry, coordinate devotion
  • Be present on site to support volunteers, ensure that their personal needs are met and that the tasks at hand are explained clearly
  • Provide an explanation for the liability waiver and ensure that all volunteers sign one
  • Assist Retention Manager Intern with sending acknowledgments to volunteers shortly after their service
  • Assist Volunteer Data Manager Intern with processing Liability Waivers, Site Sign-in Sheets and volunteer information
  • Ensure that water, snacks, and coffee are stocked on site
  • Provide feedback and reports to the Volunteer Workforce Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and desire to promote it
  • Know the many different reasons people volunteer and the reasons HFH chooses to build houses with volunteers
  • Understand the difference between “doing for” and “doing with.”
  • Understand the difference between “enabling” and “empowering.”
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and expressing the mission of Habitat for Humanity
