Youth United is an exciting initiative through Habitat for Humanity that invites high school youth to work together to fund and build homes in their own communities. Targeting young, enthusiastic volunteers to build homes, Youth United develops leadership skills and engages youth in positive service experiences.
Youth United is now recruiting high school students (incoming freshman – seniors) to participate in this city-wide volunteer youth group. Youth United members will have access to specialized construction volunteer opportunities through Habitat for Humanity of Evansville and work together on service projects throughout the year.
Red Bookcase Project (RBP)
The Red Bookcase Project is Youth United’s signature project. Bookcases are sanded, painted and assembled by the members of the group at workshops throughout the year. The bookcases are then presented to the children (under 16) of Habitat homeowners at the family’s home dedication. Additionally, several books – that are tailored to the child’s age and interest – are placed on the shelves and a custom nameplate is installed.
