Every Homeowner Has a Story

Future Habitat Homeowner
Aysha!

Aysha is an energetic and positive person who has always dreamed of being a homeowner. She is very independent and has never wanted a “hand out.” As a result of the Habitat program, she now has the opportunity to become a partner with Habitat to achieve her dream. While she is deeply appreciative of the help and support, she realizes that it is through her own hard work that she will soon own her first home.

Aysha and her nine-year-old daughter Nyrobi currently rent a duplex. She says that while it provides adequate shelter, she looks forward to having her own yard in which her daughter can play and her own house where she can host Christmas with the entire family. Her artistic daughter can’t wait to have her own room which she can paint and decorate. As Aysha says, “I finally get to be my own person.”

She learned about Habitat from a friend who had volunteered in the program. However, she didn’t fully understand exactly how it works until she applied. Now, she is quick to tell others about the program and encourage them to apply, but makes it clear that they must be willing to work hard for what they want.

Her favorite part of the Habitat program is being on the construction site and building the homes of others in the program. Her mom joins her on these builds every chance she gets, and they love the camaraderie of the Core Crew. Aysha has also built amazing friendships with many of the homeowners.

Aysha is very grateful to have the opportunity Habitat is providing. She is appreciative of all the donors and volunteers who are giving their time and resources to help her. “This is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me or my child,” she says. She admits that the journey has been hard at times but knows it will be so worth it in the end.
