“I am so grateful for this opportunity. Without Habitat and all the volunteers, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this.”

Every Homeowner Has a Story

Future Habitat Homeowner
Coreyonna

When Coreyonna was a child, a friend of her mother’s was a Habitat homeowner. Even though she has always known about Habitat, it wasn’t until she applied for the program that she truly understood it. She is the mother of three children – ages nine, five, and six months, and recently gained custody of her teenage brother. They love to have family time together which includes occasional meals out and movie nights at home. Coreyonna is a medical assistant at Medical Pain Clinic, where she has been for almost a year. Her time there has made her want to go back to school and become a nurse.

Currently, Coreyonna and her family live in a small apartment, where the rent is high and personal space is limited. The whole family is looking forward to having a place they can call their own.

Coreyonna had always wanted a house, but she had her doubts about whether she could manage it. When she gained custody of her brother, she decided that the time had come to try. It was a lot of work to get to the point where she could apply for the Habitat program, but she did and is thankful to have this opportunity. She says, “You have to be 100% in it and dedicated.”

Since being accepted into the Habitat program, Coreyonna’s life has gotten a lot busier. However, she has loved doing construction on her house and is excited to one day live in the house that she helped build. According to Coreyonna, her Habitat journey has been difficult at times, but she knows “all the hard work is going to pay off.”

The family is ready for the house to be finished so that they can truly start to make it their own. Coreyonna’s son can’t wait to decorate his room for the first time and wants to hang his Colts jerseys on his walls, while her daughter is looking forward to having a yard to play in. Coreyonna wants to plant a flower garden outside but is most excited to have a permanent place where her children can grow up together.

Coreyonna is grateful to her sponsors and all the volunteers who have helped her along the way. “Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this.”
